Methodology
Figures come from the CMS Open Payments dataset for 2024 — the federal database created by the Physician Payments Sunshine Act, which requires drug and medical-device manufacturers to report payments and transfers of value to physicians and teaching hospitals. We sum every reported payment (general, research, and ownership) per provider NPI, then rank providers by their total. Provider names, specialties, and locations are matched from CareTrace's Medicare provider rollup.
Industry payments are legal and disclosed; many reflect legitimate research, consulting, or medical education. This ranking is a transparency lens, not an allegation of wrongdoing.
